Session Formats
Your proposal should indicate the
type of session you are requesting:
Presentation: Traditional conference presentations by one or more
authors, followed by Q&A. Presentations must provide an in-depth
examination of the topic(s) of interest. Presentation proposals should
include a full description of what will be presented. Each presentation,
including Q&A, lasts 30 minutes. Presenters have the option to prepare a
paper for inclusion in the conference proceedings, which should be submitted
by 1 March 2018. Another option is to prepare a paper for a special
issue of the peer-reviewed journal Open Praxis; see below for additional instructions.
Panel: Panels are moderated sessions of experts discussing
a topic, designed to give the audience different perspectives. Panels have to
focus on interactive discussion between the panel members and the audience.
Panel proposals should include the topics to be discussed, how the audience
will be engaged in the discussion, and expected outcomes for the session.
Panel discussions will last 60 minutes.
Action Lab: Action Labs are action-oriented, hands-on sessions.
These sessions could take the form of a workshop, a brainstorming discussion,
a demonstration, or a participatory how-to session. The Open
Education Action Lab is intended to train participants, engage them in
thoughtful discussion, provide the opportunities for feedback, and incubate
new projects and ideas. Action Lab proposals must describe the intended
content, goals of the session, and hands-on components of the session.
Action Labs have a duration of up to 90 minutes. Please specify in your
proposal the duration of your Action Lab.
Poster: You are invited to submit proposals for posters,
either as a compliment to one of the sessions above, or as a separate
submission. Posters should speak for themselves, giving a good overview of
the topic or project. Posters will be on display in the Open
Education Information Fair throughout the conference. If you would like
to do a poster on the same topic as another type of session, please indicate
in your proposal that you would like to also have poster space.
